WCD Times – The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has said, now consumers can select any channel they want to view from more than 100 channel for their DTH & Cable TV service in India.
In the press statement, TRAI has said, “Consumer has complete freedom to choose their desired 100 Standard Definition (SD) channels within the network capacity fee of maximum ₹130. The desired channels could be in a-la-carte, Free to Air channels, or Pay channels or bouquet of pay channels or any combination thereof. The choice completely rests with the consumers.”
So now, with a base pack of ₹130, Consumers can select from the variety of 100 SD Channels. These channels are from Paid to free too! Also, some channel and Networks are promoting their own pack of channels, for a monthly price and validity. So TRAI clarified “Customer may note that they have the option to choose channels on a-la-carte(pay per channel) also,” That is users can choose their own individual channels without opting for monthly clubbed Channel pack.
If a user needs to watch more than 100 channels than the base pack ₹130 provides, they can add ₹20 up for extra 25 channels(SD). If the user wants to go for full HD base pack, they can choose on a base pack of ₹130. But here, one HD channels will be counted as Two channels. so you choose 50 HD channels, not 100. Trai has already said, January 31, 2019, will be the last date for Choosing channels which user wants. On February 1, 2019, these new rules and packs come into play.
Already DTH players like Dish TV has announced and started to immigrate users into the new DTH packs as of TRAI guidelines. All Cable TV Operators and DTH service can give a discount on MRP of their packs and also a maximum price for a channel that should not exceed more than ₹19. Whereas “Consumer Information channel” preferably on channel No 999 wherein consumer will get an update on any updates or information for the users about their packs and Services, said Trai in their Press release statement.
